THERE was drama in Hungerford yesterday morning when a Thamesdown Transport bus was struck by collapsing scaffolding.
Shortly before 8am the scaffolding was hit by a lorry passing the bus, causing it to fall into the road.
No-one was injured in the incident, although there was a small amount of damage to the bus, which was heading to Swindon.
Paul Jenkins, managing director of Thamesdown Transport, said: “The windscreen and bodywork of the vehicle was damaged, however a replacement vehicle was sent to cover the remaining route. There was one passenger on board at the time who was not injured. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these circumstances beyond our control.”
There were large holdups in the area as a result of the incident.
Resident Jonathan Player told the Newbury News: “It seems the bus was coming round the corner and the lorry swung out to avoid it, clipping the scaffolding.”
