POLICE are appealing for information after a series of stone throwing attacks on buses in Swindon.

A day after a bus was evacuated after being targeted in Queens Drive, as reported by the Adver, two further Thamesdown Transport services were put out of action on Wednesday after falling victim to attacks in the same area.

Buses running on the number 16 and 14 routes on Wednesday afternoon were targeted within five minutes of each other in the New College area of Queens Drive at 2.37pm and 2.42pm.

It is believed stones were used each time, which caused a window on each bus to break.

The stone thrown at the Service 14 bus made a hole in the shatterproof window.

No passengers were injured as a result of the attacks, but there was disruption on the network as the buses had to be taken out of service to be repaired.

Replacement buses were provided for passengers on the damaged vehicles, which were returned to the Thamesdown depot for repair.

The attacks came less than 24 hours after a number 13 bus was pelted with stones in Queens Drive, which also broke a window and put it out of service.

Paul Jenkins, the managing director of Thamesdown Transport, said: “Over the past few days, we have had a number of incidents where buses have been damaged due to stones being thrown.

“On Tuesday afternoon, a nearside window was damaged and on Wednesday two more buses had their windows broken while travelling down Queens Drive.

“Fortunately, due to the safety glass fitted on all of our buses none of the windows shattered and no customers were injured.

“While these incidents are rare, they do cause disruption as it means services have to be cancelled at very short notice as buses taken off the road for repairs.

“We are working closely with the police and providing them with the necessary CCTV footage to identify those responsible.

“We would like to apologise to any customers inconvenienced by the damage and urge anyone with information to contact the police.”

A spokesman for New College, which is near where the latest attacks took place, said the new academic year did not start until Monday, but the college was always happy to work with Thamesdown Transport and the police should the need arise.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on the non-emergency 101 number.
