A DRIVER who was arrested after swerving over the road in a car missing a tyre has pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

Paul Randall, 39, of Cricklade, also admitted to driving without a licence or insurance when he appeared at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Randall was spotted on August 15 travelling dangerously across North Swindon and when police caught up with him he was found to be four times over the drink-drive limit.

He was first spotted by another motorist at the wheel of a Toyota Yaris, which had a burst tyre, turning off the A419 on to Thamesdown Drive.

He was weaving in and out of lanes on the dual carriageway so the other driver, fearing a crash, followed him in a way to warn other vehicles of the danger, the court heard.

Upon reaching some red lights, she pulled up alongside Randall and found him slumped over the wheel.

He set off again and turned onto Haydon Walk, somehow missing other vehicles and negotiating a roundabout.

By this time the burst tyre had come completely off so he stopped and stumbled out of his car to look at the tyre before getting back in to continue his journey.

The other driver continued to follow him, in constant contact with the police, as Randall stopped at a house on Thames Avenue, which is where police eventually caught up with him.

He will be sentenced on September 25 and has been given a temporary disqualification from driving until this point.
