SHOUTS and screams of delight descended on Trinity Day Nursery on Saturday as crowds of children gathered to the official opening courtesy of CBeebies favourite, Mr Bloom.

The popular children's entertainer cut the ribbon with Swindon Mayor, councillor Andrew Bennett in a special ceremony held at the Victoria Road nursery.

Visitors enjoyed an array of different of activities during the day, from painting to playing while having a chance to explore the impressive range of facilities available to families.

While the nursery is not expected to be open to business for a few more weeks, the day gave interested parents a chance to find out more about what's on offer following a £1.7m investment in the site.

Gail Tanner, who designed the nursery with Claire French, said: "It's brilliant to have Mr Bloom here and to give families the chance to have a look around.

"When we are up and running we will be able to cater for 99 children a day.

"As an earlier years provider we can have from nought to eight. Initially we will take up to fives during the day but one thing we do want to do later is to open an after-school club.

"But none of this would have been possible without the generous investments of Mr Basnayake and Data Sri Devamani."

Kelly Gammage, deputy manager at the nursery, said: "I am very excited. I think the main thing is it's all about the children, we're all in childcare because we are passionate about childcare and we want to make sure the children have the best we can offer them."
