SOUTH Swindon MP Robert Buckland got a taste of the future today when he was swept off his feet by a new town centre business.

Rota-Motus officially opened their doors at an unveiling event at their new town centre premises, welcoming leader of Swindon Borough Council David Renard and Mr Buckland among their many guests.

The futuristic new business is the brainchild of self-confessed technology lovers Jo Allen, Craig Nottage and Cameron and Kim Smith and is home to some impressive pieces of technology.

Taking to an AirBoard for the very first time Mr Buckland tried his hand – or rather his feet – at the star attraction of the new venture.

After completing several laps of the Rota-Motus foyer – without losing his balance – he said: “It was such an odd feeling of movement without actually moving my legs.

“This got me thinking about when people have injuries it might be a way of nicely aiding their recovery for things such as ankle or joint injuries, as it is all about balance. These have a use that I hadn’t really considered before.

“When I first saw this type of machine I was a bit nonplussed and wondered ‘what’s the point?’ But having now seen them in action I actually understand more about them and believe they have a lot to offer.”

AirWheel Ltd, who distribute the AirWheels and AirBoards, have cited medical benefits to their technology, revealing there are physiotherapists using AirBoards to help ankle rehabilitation and strengthening.

Mr Buckland said it was great to have a new venture opening for business in the town centre.

He said: “I am delighted to be here at the opening of a new business here in the town centre, one which will hopefully flourish in the future.”

As well as offering tem building experiences on the AirBoards and AirWheels the business is also home to a 3D printer and virtual reality equipment.

During the opening event the team also welcomed Nigel Tomlinson and Ben Caines from the British FPV Drone racing association who spoke about drone technology, while Grant McKenzie from CEL Robox 3D Printers spoke about the new heights of 3D printing.

Co-founder Jo Allen said: “It has been a long journey to get to this stage, and it feels great.

"We have had a lot of people coming in to see what we offer here and to ask questions about Christmas presents, as well as corporate partners wanting to organise team building days.”
