A 62-year-old man has suffered multiple injuries in a crash involving two vehicles near Highworth.

Police were called to the B4000 with the junction of the B4508 just before 2pm yesterday and closed the road for several hours.

The driver of the Ford Mondeo – a 26-year-old man from the Swindon area – suffered minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

But the driver of the Citroen Berlingo – a man aged 62 also from the Swindon area – sustained multiple injuries and was flown to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Police are have now issued a plea for witnesses.

PC Andy Lee from Wiltshire Police’s roads policing unit said: “Police are investigating a two-vehicle serious injury road traffic collision on the B4000, which is just west of Wrag Barn Golf Club, which occurred at 13.51 hours on Friday, 27 May 2016.

“A Citroen Berlingo which was negotiating a junction with the B4000 and the B4508 has been involved in a collision with a white Ford Mondeo which had been travelling east towards Watchfield, both vehicles having ended up on the verge.

“As a result of the collision the driver of the Berlingo – a male aged 62-years-old from the Swindon area – sustained multiple injuries and was flown to Southmead Hospital.

“The driver of the Mondeo – a male aged 26-years-old from the Swindon area – had minor injuries and went home from the scene.

“The road was closed for several hours as police conducted an investigation. Police are appealing for anyone with information about the collision to call 101 or Crimestoppers.”

The crash is the second in a week near that stretch of road. Four people died on Sunday night when they collided head-on with another car on the A420 between the Shrivenham-Highworth over-bridge and Highworth junction at about 11.15pm.

A Swindon couple and three-year-old child were also seriously injured.
