A man from Swindon was found guilty of assaulting a police constable in Bournemouth last year.

Callum McGhee-Parsons, of Tweed Close in Haydon Wick in Swindon, was charged with assault of a police officer and a police constable on 28 November 2021.

He was also charged with obstruction/resisting a constable in the execution of their duty.

He faced Poole Magistrates' Court on 23 August 2022, where one of the two charges of assault of a police officer was dismissed due to no evidence being offered to prove it happened.

However, the 27-year-old pleaded guilty to the two remaining charges.

McGhee-Parsons was discharged conditionally for 12 months.

He was fined initial costs of £85 as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £22.

This fee, totalling £107 is to be paid by 6 September.

A collection order of this was also made in court.

Assaulting an emergency worker is deemed an 'aggravated assault' and is treated more seriously by the courts than other assaults.

The conviction ratio for assault on emergency workers is 84% in the UK, according to data from the government.

Males stood for 70.8% of these crimes, and females stood for 29.2%.
