A woman who suffered life-threatening injuries in a horror bus crash in Wiltshire is now in a stable condition.

She was a passenger in a Volkswagen Golf involved in the crash with a single-decker on the A4 in Box and the incident saw the major route between Chippenham and Bath closed for several hours.

The crash happened at around 4.30pm on bus which was headed west in the direction of Box.

The female passenger, in her 40s, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

The driver, a man in his 40s, sustained multiple fractured ribs and was treated at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash and the vehicle’s driver sustained minor injuries.

Police confirmed on Tuesday morning that the road had reopened and are appealing for more information.

A spokesperson said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, as well as anyone who may have dash cam footage, to get in touch."
