An 80s music legend has revealed he loves coming to Swindon and visiting the County Ground ahead of his upcoming gig in the town.

Jazzie B of dance band Soul II Soul made his name with era-defining hits such as Back to Life and Keep On Movin’.

After selling over 6.8 million albums globally, he is bringing the band to Swindon’s MECA this year on their new tour.

This will not be Jazzie’s first trip to Wiltshire as the DJ revealed in an exclusive chat with the Adver that he often visits the town because of football.

He said: “I’ve been loads of times, come on Swindon! I go for the football as my son (Cardiff City's Mahlon Romeo) used to play up that way all the time.

“Aside from that it hasn’t really resonated for me in Swindon so that’s one of the reasons I’ve decided to go there.

“It was more than just pin the tail on the donkey and was a little bit more systematic because Swindon has a lot to answer for so I thought I’d come down.”

The 60-year-old also revealed that he never tires of playing Soul II Soul’s 1989 number one smash Back to Life after all these years.

“It’s funny as I enjoy that as how lovely is it to have something that people actually have an interest in,” said Jazzie.

“I’ll bathe myself in that song all day long, every day because surely that’s the reason why you get into music in the first place.

“I haven’t got that large of a repertoire so the little bits that I do have I am very grateful for as well as people’s appreciation for all the efforts we put in to making club classics.”

Jazzie teased about the new material that will feature throughout the tour and hinted it will be used during his visit to town.

“I am absolutely looking forward to the whole shebang right now as I’ve got some new tactics and there just seems to be this rejuvenation of energy,” he said.

“I got a few new ideas that we are going to be trying out on the tour and I’m looking forward to letting Swindon in when you guys pull up to the event.”

When asked about what his favourite Soul II Soul gig was, the DJ said: “After the Swindon gig I’ll let you know!”

You can watch Jazzie and the band perform in Swindon at the MECA on Saturday, November 4 with tickets priced at £31.35 and available here.
