Prince William is to visit Swindon this week.

The Prince of Wales is to visit BEST - Be a Better You, a charity which supports young people and helps keep them out of trouble on Friday, September 29.

The Prince will be speaking to Jess Bryden, the daughter of the charity's founder Don, who was exposed to criminal exploitation.

Jess fell into the wrong crowd and was getting into fights and being arrested before her parents intervened.

Don set up the charity in 2020 to help Jess turn her life around and help keep young people out of trouble.

Don set up the charity because he had been through similar things to Jess, having been in a gang at 14. Don's charity provides support for young people because he understands the situation many vulnerable young people find themselves in.Swindon Advertiser:

BEST - Be A Better You aims to provide mental health support through mentoring and different activities.

On his visit to Swindon, William will speak to different young people who are involved with the charity and hear how they have been supported by BEST.

The future King will also hear from volunteers and staff about the programmes they deliver at the charity, and the positive impact it has on children in the local community.

When the charity was first set up, Don said: “I was one of the naughtiest people around when I was younger, I was in a gang at 14, there was trauma, drugs, abuse.

"I have learned from those experiences, I know what they have been through and what to look out for.

"This has been years in the making. It's very personal to me because it happened to me.

"We are intercepting these troubled youth before it's too late and giving them discipline and structure and guidance, and teaching them to be proud and stand tall with a smile.

"Hopefully, now people have seen who we are we can keep the support going because we are desperate for financial help.

Former Mayor of Swindon, Abdul Amin said at the time that the Charity was first opened: "What Don is doing is absolutely amazing, we need more people like him.

"I feel so sorry for what he and his family had to go through but he has decided to help others going through the same situation, which is brilliant.

"We don't want children to go down the wrong path, so these one-to-one sessions will make a massive difference."
