A pizza takeaway that recently opened in a Swindon laundrette has been given the top food hygiene rating following an inspection.

Ozzy’s Pizza and Kebab opened on Moredon Road on Monday, October 23, 2023, offering a wide selection of pizzas, kebabs, fries and sides.

Despite the town having several pizzerias, this particular one is far from the norm as it is located in the back of the popular laundry service, Moredon Laundrette.

The pizza takeaway has now been given a five-out-of-five hygiene rating after it was inspected by Swindon Borough Council’s Environmental Health Team for the first time.

Both the pizza takeaway and laundrette are owned by Emrah Salik of Rodbourne and the Swindon businessman is pleased with the new hygiene score for his latest venture.

“I feel very good because I got the five star but I knew I was going to get it as this is not my first,” said Emrah, who has previously run similar businesses in Malmesbury and Cirencester.

“Business is going very well so far as people can see on the Just Eat comments.

“I’m doing my job and the inspector got very confused when she walked in as everything was so tidy and clean.

“She said thanks because I didn’t know she was coming to do the inspection that day but everything is so tidy and clean. I never get a bad score.”Swindon Advertiser: The laundrette in Moredon is also owned by Emrah. The laundrette in Moredon is also owned by Emrah. (Image: Dave Cox)

A report was issued following the inspectors’ visit on Monday, December 18, which saw the eatery rated as “very good”.

Ozzy’s Pizza and Kebab’s hygienic handling of food was adjudged by the Environmental Health team to be of a “good” standard.

This includes the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food on the premises.

The cleanliness and condition of both the building and its facilities were also regarded as “good” by the visiting inspectors.

This refers to having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

Management of food safety is the last section of criteria that Ozzy’s Pizza and Kebab was rated on with the eatery classed as “good” once more.

This involves having a system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat as well as there being evidence that staff know about food safety.

This also regards the food safety officer having confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
