The long-term future of a well-used community swimming pool has been secured thanks to a grant from Sports England.

Cricklade Leisure Centre has confirmed that the government body is awarding it £58,000 as part of the Swimming Pool Support Fund.

A spokesperson for Cricklade Town Council said: "This incredible grant will be dedicated to installing PV panels (Solar panels) and triple glazing for our pool windows.

"This marks a significant step in our long-term sustainability plan, ensuring a brighter and more energy-efficient future for our community.

"Thank you to Sport England, The National Lottery and Cricklade Town Council for supporting our vision.

Cricklade Leisure Centre is one of more than 300 swimming pools and leisure centres in England that have received grants to help boost their energy efficiency and keep running costs down.

The only other local pool to receive a grant as part of this round is the Link Centre in Swindon, which is receiving £115,000

“Swimming pools and leisure centres are vital community resources and are enormously important in helping people to be physically active,” said Sport England's Lisa Dodd-Mayne.

“We hope today’s funding announcement will enable more public pools to improve their energy efficiency to be more environmentally and financially sustainable, so they remain available for future generations to enjoy.”
