A boys' brigade group that claims to be the last of its kind in the county is celebrating an extra special milestone this month.

5th Swindon Boys' Brigade, based at Stratton St. Margaret's Church, is the only boys' brigade left in Wiltshire and will celebrate its 50th birthday by releasing a new book acknowledging the group's rich past.

The Boys’ Brigade was first founded in Glasgow on 4th October 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith and later grew to become a worldwide movement.

Established in 1974, the 5th Swindon Boys' Brigade has been a part of the community for five decades, enriching the lives of countless young people and fostering lasting friendships.

In honour of its history, the boys' brigade will now release a unique badge and commemorative book looking back through the ages.

The book, priced at £10, will feature stories, photographs and memories that members say will resonate with readers of all ages.

"Whether you're a Boys' Brigade enthusiast, a history buff, or simply love a good story, this book is sure to delight," said Chris Spackman, Trustee of the Boys' Brigade Archives.

"We are thrilled to share the story of the 5th Swindon Boys' Brigade with the wider community," added Teresa Daglish, Company Captain.

"Our commemorative book and badge are a celebration of the enduring spirit and impact of the Boys' Brigade over the past five decades."

In addition to the book which is available to buy on the Boys' Brigade Museum website, the special commemorative badge will also allow past members or fans of the Boys' Brigade to wear their support with pride.
