What happened to six stray puppies found in Wiltshire

The sextuplet of pups was discovered in the village of Leigh near Ashton Keynes and Cricklade on Tuesday, February 20, after two citizens noticed that the animals had been left outside in the rain and took them to safety.

Now, after being sent to Bath Cats and Dogs Home, the Wiltshire runaways have become treasured family pets in just a matter of weeks. 

The puppies were only eight weeks old when they were delivered to the home by a public protection officer from Wiltshire Council’s Dog Control Team on the same day they were found.

They were said to be rather scared, covered in fleas, very muddy and in need of a good bath and were looked after by the home's animal care team. 

The puppies were named Ricky, Arthur, Billy, Tania, Pat and Phil by staff after characters in ‘EastEnders’ and at night the six pups slept snuggled up in one giant dog bed.

Vets gave each puppy a full health check and made sure they were microchipped and had all their vaccinations, worm and flea treatments.

After settling into life at Bath Cats and Dogs Home, they were placed up for adoption in early March and all six were given new homes in no time, with some of their adopters sharing updates. 

First to be adopted was Ricky on March 8.

New owner Mike and his partner said: “Ricky is settling in well and is a funny little chap that loves a bit of gardening and then soaking up the sunshine afterwards.

His adopter said that Jasper has just attended his third puppy class and is doing well.

Billy, now called Toby, recently met his brother ‘Ned’ at the vets the other day while he was getting his booster.  His owners say he a celebrity on his street and everyone loves greeting him on their walks.
