WILTSHIRE referee Lee Probert admits that he shed a tear when he found out that he would be the man in charge of next month’s FA Cup final.
The 41-year-old will be the man in the middle on Saturday, May 17 as Arsenal take on Hull City at Wembley.
However, when he took the call to inform him of the honour, Probert’s thoughts immediately turned to his late father.
“When I got the phonecall, I have to say I did shed a tear and look to the sky,” he said. “The first person I thought about was my dad who I lost six years ago.
“He was always there to support me throughout my career.
“When I walk out on May 17, I know he’ll be chuffed to bits.”
