ANDY Williams believes that the arrival of Jon Obika at Swindon Town means that boss Mark Cooper now has five top strikers at his disposal.

Obika’s stunning return back at SN1 continued on Tuesday night as he bagged his third goal in only his second match.

The 24-year-old hitman, who joined on transfer deadline day from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee believed to be in the region of £200,000, endured a tough time on loan at Swindon, but he is showing no signs of that affecting him now.

And Williams, who has found himself on the bench following Obika’s arrival at the County Ground, knows that the quality the club have at their disposal.

“I had a very, very long successful spell with him over a season at Yeovil,” said Williams, who partnered Obika during the 2011-12 campaign at Huish Park.

“We’ve got three really good strikers (Obika, Williams and Michael Smith) bidding for positions.

“Not to mention Connor (Waldon) who came in for the game against Coventry and did really and George Barker who can play up there as well.

“We’ve got five top strikers bidding for two positions now, which is good.”

When Obika first arrived in Swindon in January 2011, the then 20-year-old only featured five times and failed to score.

But Williams says that the club is completely different now to when the former Spurs youngster was first at the County Ground.

“I’m not aware of his (first) spell here - I don’t think he got too many games either,” Williams added.

“I think with Jon he needs to be in the right environment and he’ll certainly be in that here now.

“We’ve got a great young group and everyone will look out for each other and I think he’s going to fit straight in perfectly.

“I think it’s good the two lads who came in at the end of the transfer window will just fit nicely into the group, both good young pros and will it nicely with the other young boys.”
