TOWN Ladies went top of the the FA Women’s Premier League with a 3-1 over previously unbeaten Forest Green Rovers.
Town started strongly with Beth Thompson and Meg Vella both bringing home ‘keeper Georgia Macey into action.
Then Michelle Rich saw here shot rebound to safety off the Rover's crossbar.
WIth the first half in added time Rovers were awarded a free kick just outside the area. Charlotte King drove the ball low past Town ‘keeper Robyn Levett to put the home side ahead.
Town took just seven minutes after the break to draw level, Meg Attenborough knocking in Rich’s corner.
Then the Ladies took a deserved lead when Meg Vella found the net following a long individual run.
Rovers’ crossbar twice saved them from falling further behind, when shots from Vella and then Chyna Colllings shots had the Macey beaten.
With the game in added time Collings scrambled in Rich’s free kick to make the game secure. To win by such a margin against the league’s in-form side is a real statement of intent from Steve Robertson’s side.
