SUPERMARINE Sports manager Pete Milhench was surprised to see his side hit the goal trail at Marlborough Town on Saturday.

The South Marston outfit may have tasted victory at Marlborough in recent seasons but their boss says that they’ve always had things far from their own way Elcot Lane.

But at the weekend, Adam Devine scored twice, with his second coming from the penalty spot, whilst Liam Kearns hit a brace.

Lee Hayward and Jason Milhench were also on target as the visitors got back to winning ways in the Wiltshire League Premier Division with a comfortable 6-3 win.

“We never do well at Marlborough. We won there twice last season but it was 2-1 both times and it wasn’t easy,” said the Supermarine chief.

“We played really well in the first 20 minutes but then went 1-0 down. But I wasn’t expecting the scoreline to be like it was in the end.

“Marlborough have got new management in and a few new players too. They worked hard and they’ve only been losing games by the odd goal, so I was a bit worried about going there.”

Supermarine are currently seventh in the table, six points behind leaders Melksham Town Reserves with a game in hand.

Milhench added: “The league is still really open in my opinion. Ourselves and Southbrook need to try and get a few wins to make sure we’re up there.

“We’ve got Chippenham (Youth) this weekend – they were mid-table last year and now they’re up in third.”

Elsewhere, Southbrook notched up a second successive 5-2 triumph as they took all three points at Westbury United Reserves.

Wroughton were unable to follow up their Wiltshire Senior Cup giantkilling act as they were beaten 1-0 at the hands of Shrewton United whilst Wootton Bassett Town Development’s trip to Trowbridge Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
