SWINDON Town are still talking to Liverpool about the possibility of Brad Smith returning back to the County Ground after it became apparent a contractual dispute between the player and the Anfield club was the reason for his recall.

Reports emerged from Liverpool on Tuesday night that the Australian international’s spell with Town had been cut short because he had not yet signed a new contract with his parent club.

Town boss Mark Cooper revealed yesterday that was the reason Smith was recalled and followed-up his statement on Tuesday that the pacey defender’s return was a possibility “That was the reason (he was recalled),” said the County Ground chief. “These things happen. They obviously want him to sign a contract and are trying to put thier foot down and say ‘look if want to be a Liverpool player you have to sign a new contract’.”

“We’re talking to them and we have a good relationship as we’ve obviously got the manager’s son playing for us.”
