SWINDON College Old Boys will come face-to-face with two World Cup winners when they host Chesham this weekend.

The Buckinghamshire side are coached by Rochelle Clark and Kat Merchant, who helped the England women’s team claim the world title in France back in August.

And Old Boys boss Martin Lloyd is wary of a much-improved opposition than that which his side beat 35-7 away from home in Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier earlier this season.

“We’ve been following their results since and they’ve really improved,” said Lloyd, whose team are second in the table. “It is strange to see ladies coaching a men’s team but the guys certainly do what they’re told and you can see the improvements that they’ve made.

“We won’t be taking the game lightly and it will be a hard contest.

“We don’t take anyone for granted. They may be in the bottom half of the table but that doesn’t mean anything in this league.”

n WOOTTON Bassett will be looking to set the record straight when they welcome Drifters to the Ballard’s Ash Sports Ground.

Alan Low’s side were beaten 18-16 in Farnham Common back in September and head into Saturday’s game seeking a fifth straight win in Southern Counties North.

“We played them in our first away game of the season and didn’t do ourselves justice,” said Low.

“It was a mixed bag of a side that went there and I even had to pull my boots on. They got out of the blocks fast and really stuck it to us.

“We have built from that and really gone from strength to strength since.

“We owe them a proper game of rugby and the first thing the boys said after winning last weekend was let’s finish 2014 on a high.”
