PADDY Fitzpatrick has offered Lawrence Bennett and his team a £4,000 bonus if he can knock out his fighter Luke Watkins.

Bennett’s new manager Steve Goodwin, told the Advertiser yesterday that there was no point in the ‘Bad Boy’ fighting a ‘three-fight novice’.

However the cruiserweight’s rival trainer Fitzpatrick is so confident that Watkins will be victorious he is prepared to put his money where his mouth is.

“Lawrence has said that he would stop Duke in four rounds,” Fitzpatrick said. “I don’t see why he is so confident as he has never stopped anyone before.

“So my offer to you Lawrence is that if you can do that then I’ll pay you a £3,000 bonus.

“As the manager gets 25 per cent I’ll pay Steve Goodwin £1,000 as well.

“If you feel you need more time to do it I’ll extend it and say I’ll pay the money if you can do it in 10 rounds or less.”

However, the Ferndale Road trainer says that the fight has to happen by the end of April or it won’t happen at all.

“Steve Goodwin has said there is no point in the fight. Well that is nonense,” Fitzpatrick added. “By the time Lawrence is next out Duke would have had six fights and his man will still be on eight - so they won’t be a million miles apart.

“Also it is a fight for Swindon town, it would sell out the Oasis, and the people of Swindon could really get behind it.

“You need the support of your hometown before you can think about moving on.”
