DAVID Howell is set for an extended stay at the Emirates golf club after making the cut at the Dubai Desert Classic earlier today.
The Broome Manor star followed up his one-under par score of 71 yesterday by shooting a three-under today, sealing his berth in the final two days of competition for the first time this season after missing the cut at the Abu Dhabi Championship and Qatar Masters earlier this month.
Howell bogeyed the par-four second but despite roaring back with birdies on the third and fourth holes, another bogey on the eighth ensured that he was on par after the front nine.
But the 39-year-old caught fire in the desert heat on the back nine, racking up birdies on the 11th, 14th, 16th and 18th holes, meaning that a third bogey of the day on the par-four 12th couldn’t knock him off his stride.
Howell goes into Saturday’s third round tied 41st, with world number one Rory McIlroy leading on eight-under.
