IT WAS last minute heart-break for Sam Collier’s Shrivenham as his side fell to a 1-0 defeat to league leaders Highmoor Ibis.

Following Shrivenham’s mid-week mauling at the hands of Flackwell Heath Collier was anxious, heading into the weekend, of a similar outcome.

However Shrivenham held their own on the road and were left disappointed that they had not come away with at least a point.

“I was very disappointed after the game,” said Collier.

“It was a game I was dreading, to be honest with you, simply because of what happened on Tuesday and I wanted it out of the way asap, but come quarter to five we were very disappointed that we didn’t have anything out of it.

“We were very good for large spells of the game.

“We came up against top of the league after Tuesday’s drubbing and we got a massive reaction from the boys and we have got some very disappointed lads in the changing room because we have got nothing away to top of the league."

Shrivvy had kept their hosts at bay for 90 minutes, but as they still struggle in front of goal it was only a matter of time before their lack of goals would be punished.

The home side were reduced to ten men minutes from time when Jordan Brown flicked out after being fouled to give Shrivenham hope.

However three minutes into added time Highmoor’s player manager Marcus Richardson came off the bench to head home and clinch the three points.

“They scored from a corner where we switched off a little bit but other than that I was pleased with how the lads played,” added Collier.

“They brought their manager on in the 80th minute and he is a big striker and he was able to score in the last two minutes.

“The lads did really well but we lack options up front and there is only a certain amount of time you can hold on and defend for.

“The spirit in the lads is different class. It could have been easy for us to roll over and go again but with four or five key players missing we brought in some reserve lads and there were some very good performances.

“That is twice that they have watched us now and their manager doesn’t understand why we are where we are.

“We are where we are because we haven’t got enough points; it’s as simple as that.

“We created some opportunities but that is what happens when you are down the bottom, if you don’t score in the last few minutes you concede one “We’ve got the week off now so the lads can have a couple of days off now and recharge because we have had a busy week.

“We can certainly take some positives out of it and hopefully we can go again next Saturday.”
