DAVE Webb saluted his Supermarine side as they ground out a point at in-form North Leigh on Saturday.

Webb has admitted defeat in the battle to get his side into play-off contention, but had nothing but praise for the efforts of his side as they shut out the free-scoring home side, who boasted a lengthy unbeaten record, in a goalless draw.

“I’m really pleased,’’ he said. “We’ve had a couple of games where we’ve been a bit unlucky really and results have gone against us.

“The you look at North Leigh, who have been free-scoring and unbeaten for quite a few games.

“But we had a good training session in the week and I selected the side from that training session.

“I asked for a performance and the players went out there and gave one for the club. Every single player went out and showed what we are about.’’ He added: “We know the play-offs are beyond us, but we have to get as many points as we can and maybe we can get ourselves into that top 10.

“We got a clean sheet and it’s something to work on.

“The lads worked hard and I’m pleased for the people who were there and the committee that they could see that.’’ Marine keeper Sam Warrell was in fine form against his former side, denying Leigh’s Morgan Williams minutes after the home side’s Aaron Woodley had lost his footing on a slippery surface while in front of goal.

Warrell again stood up to the home attack in a match in which chances were sparse, but Josh Morse also went close for Marine after the break.

The Marine keeper then kept out Woodley’s 20-yard effort before the visitors suffered a blow when Joe Shepherd was carried off with a head injury after colliding with teammate Ross Adams.

Williams saw another opportunity saved by Warrell, but Morse could have nicked the points with a late one-on-one.

The two teams meet again next week, at Marine, in the quarter finals of the Red Insure Cup.
