PREDICTIONS LEAGUE: Swindon v Gillingham

Through March Swindon have a run of games that, on paper, should see them pick up a hatful of points. They start the month with a home fixture against The Gills, always a physical game. Gillingham will come to the County Ground with a better run of form than Swindon of late. One defeat in eight which included wins over promotion contenders MK Dons and Sheffield United, albeit that those wins were at Priestfields. Gillingham, who are currently in fourteenth place in the League will not be looking to do us any favours. Although they are mid table, they are only 6 points adrift of that allusive final play-off spot. Although they may not get there come the end of the season, you can’t expect them not to try.

If Swindon still have any desire to get out of this league without going through the end of season lottery, then they need to get a much higher return of points from March than they did in February. 7 points from a possible 18 is not going to get you promotion.

I still feel that Swindon will need at least 87 points for that second spot and therefore the maths say that is just 9 wins from the remaining 13 games. Tall order? On the form shown in February, then yes, maybe.

Yet we are unbeaten in the last two, so let’s hang on to the positives and hope the bad run of form is now behind us.

Onwards and upwards.
