SWINDON Spitfires clinched a 4-3 win over Bristol Ladies Union in the South West Women’s Football League Premier Division – but had to come from 3-1 down to do it.

Despite early chances for Katie Wadey and Emma Skinner, Bristol grabbed the lead before Wadey had a goal disallowed for offside.

Spitfires were then rocked by a second Bristol goal before Skinner found Hayley Huckin, who headed home, only for the offside flag to deny them again.

Good battling in the middle from Skinner and Morgan Whitaker set up Wadey to lob home Spitfires’ opener before half time.

Bristol netted for a third time on 57 minutes but Wadey beat the offside trap pulled a goal back 10 minutes later.

Spitfires’ tails were up and in an almost carbon-copy of her second goal Wadey netted her hat-trick to tie the scores.

The winner came as Huckin broke on the right wing and crossed for substitute Ria Salleh to slot home.

Spitfires Under 15s clinchyed a 3-0 win over Caversham in the quarter final of the Berks Girls League Cup.

The breakthrough came on four minutes as Ellie Scott played in Helana Butcher to fire in her shot across the keeper On 34 minutes as Brooke Stead’s shot proved too powerful for the keeper and she spilled straight in to the path of Scott to volley in at close range.

In the second half Caversham had the wind behind them and were able to keep Spitfires in their half for prolonged periods.

But two minutes from time Scott played in Butcher to slot home the third.

Swindon Spitfires completed their Wiltshire Women’s and Girls’ League Under 12 fixtures with a 7-0 victory over Trowbridge, Kayleigh Stanley scoring a hat-trick and Erin Pearce and Shannon Lindsell two each.
