DJC Marlborough bounced back from last weekend’s 8-1 drubbing at the hands of champions-elect Avtar Construction by thrashing Swiss Chalet Rangers 6-0 on the road.

Adam Bukowski led Marlborough’s charge with a brace, player-manager Ian Bevan bagged a rare goal, Mike Robinson netted a penalty, while Harry Meek and Kevin May were also on target.

The victory is just Marlborough’s fifth this season, although three of those have come in the last four league games.

Boss Bevan said: “It was a good win and we played really well. They are a good side on their day but we showed just how well we can play and we deserved to get a scoreline like that.

“We got two early goals and that gave us confidence. And then we got two early goals in the second half as well, and that killed the game off.

“They had a few chances when it was 2-0 and we were actually thankful to get to half-time with that lead. But in the second half, we were the better team.

“We had been struggling to get players together before Christmas but since then, we’ve had a bit more of a settled side and that’s really paid off.

“They thing with local football these days is that it’s all young lads and a lot of them work on Saturdays, so that comes first.

“I don’t think I’ve been able to field the same team twice in a row.”

Marlborough now play host to third-placed Old Town United, who were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Shield & Dagger in the only other game in the top flight.

Although they will likely start as the underdogs, Bevan sees no reason why his side cannot continue their upturn in form.

“A couple of teams have dropped out, so we have only got three league games left, which is a bit disappointing considering we’re only just in March,” added Bevan.

“Any team can beat anyone else on the day in this league, so I’m confident we can get something against Old Town. They beat us 2-0 earlier in the season but we had a man sent off.

“It was nice to get a win under our belts at the weekend and hopefully we can get another one now as well.”

In Division One, league leaders KS Miltax dropped points for just the fourth time in 15 games as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home to North Swindon WMC.

Second-placed The Clifton were without a game but are now just four points behind with three games in hand.

Chiseldon got the better of an eight-goal thriller against bottom side Core Construction, edging to a 5-3 success, while Redhouse were 1-0 winners over Swindon Spitfires.
