CHAIRMAN Lee Power conceded that thoughts at Swindon Town would immediately turn to re-shaping Mark Cooper’s squad following this afternoon’s League One play-off final drubbing at the hands of Preston North End.

Goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is expected to head for the exit door following the expiration of his deal at the County Ground whilst Andy Williams is also out-of-contract.

Midfield ace Massimo Luongo has also been heavily linked with a move to a higher division and Power revealed that Town have received ‘big offers’ for ‘two or three’ members of the current squad.

“Obviously, there’s a lot of speculation. There’s two or three we’ve got big offers for that might be leaving,” said the Swindon owner.

“We’ve got a lot of loan players that might need to go back, so we might have to rebuild again but we’ve done it once and we’ll do it again.

“Wes is out of contract but I don’t know the situation with him.

“We’ve got to sit down next week and speak to a lot of players and see where we are.

“When Paolo (Di Canio) left, we had to cut the budget down from £5 million to £1.5 million. Listen, we done it then and I’m confident we’ll do it again.

“We’ve obviously go to see what we’re left with, in terms who goes and who doesn’t, but one thing we will be is competitive.

“I said that at the start of last season – no-one believed me – and we’ll do the same again.”

A 4-0 drubbing at the home of English football made for heart-breaking viewing for Power but the Swindon chairman was in no doubt over the unexpected strides forward made this term under manager Cooper.

Power said: “He’s done a fantastic job. We were budgeted to finish fifth-from-bottom. Most people wrote us off as relegation candidates and we’re here at Wembley.

“We know a lot more about the league. We’ve had some income, which is a bonus – some extra money for getting in the play-offs.

“Overall, he’s done fantastically well. The team’s done well but I’m just very disappointed we didn’t turn up.

“Maybe (it was) a step too far, you know? The team did fantastically well to get here and you didn’t see that coming in the preparation, it’s happened and we’ve got to dust ourselves down and get on with it. There’s nothing else we can do.

“They might have deserved to get beat 4-0 today to be fair to them but over the season, they didn’t deserve to go out like that.

“I think all the fans that have come along; I’m disappointed for them. After the first minute, it was over.

“But the best team won and we didn’t.

“I’m just disappointed for the players and the town. They don’t play like that every week and they’re devastated. They’re young lads but we’ve done fantastically well to get where we are.”
