THE Swindon School Games saw more than 30 primary and secondary schools take part at Lydiard Park Academy, Lydiard Park, Link Centre and Delta Tennis Centre.

The primary schools that compete took part in swimming, athletics, gymnastics, tennis and orienteering.

The secondary schools are taking part in swimming, rounders, touch rugby and tennis.

Some of the events were Level Two qualifying rounds to go through to join other schools from across the county at the Wiltshire School Games on July 8 at Marlborough College.

There were also more than 100 young leaders from Lydiard Park Academy, Ridgeway, Royal Wootton Bassett, Isambard and Swindon Academy who took on the role of officials and scorers, playing an integral part to help the event run smoothly.

English Rugby World Cup winner, Danielle Waterman, was present to provide an inspiration for the young athletes.

The young athletes were treated to a string of performances in the opening ceremony. Including Tom Connors and Ash Randall respectively demonstrating their basketball and football skills which proved to be a great hit with the youngsters.

The were joined by pupils from Goddard School who performed a dance routine with a Super Mario computer games theme.

Wiltshire and Swindon Sport held a flag design competition at the end of 2014, with Luke Hannay chosen from the cluster of primary and secondary schools across the county as the winner.

Quad kids - Primary only: 1 Robert Le Kyng, 2 Lawn, 3 Grange.

Tennis - Primary: 1 Oakhurst, 2 South Marston, 3 Shaw Ridge.

Swimming - Primary: 1 Southfield, 2 Wroughton, 3 Westlea. Secondary KS3: 1 Ridgeway, Royal Wootton Bassett, 3 Commonweal. Secondary KS4: 1 Abbeyfield, 2 Royal Wootton Bassett, 3 Clarendon.

Orienteering - Primary: 1 Even Swindon, 2 Gorse Hill, 3 Haydon Leigh.
