LECHLADE captain Joe Breet knows his side must dig deep in the second half of their season if they are to achieve a top three finish.

The Manor Ground side have had a mixed opening to their season, having lost five and won four.

However South African Breet is hoping that last weekend’s six-run win over Keynsham will prove a catalyst for the second part of their campaign, with selection issues looking to ease.

“I think we played really good cricket last weekend so it is positive and it is good having everybody available,” he said.

“I think we’ll do better than how we did in the first half of the season.

“We had two students, Oli Thornley and Freddie Martin, both miss a couple of games due to being at university, so it is good to have them back and they will play most games now until the end of the season.

“Ryan Higgins is back as well after having medical issues, so if we put out our strongest side then I think we will compete and do well against most teams.”

Breet believes that Lechlade, who currently sit sixth in Premier Two, have the ability to be in the top three come the end of the season.

“I think everybody has the potential to beat everybody else, so it is going to be hard, but, if we play good cricket, I believe we have the quality in the side to beat most,” he added.

“I think every game, between now and the end of the season, is crucial and we will play every game as if it is our last.

“I think there will still be a couple of surprises. If you look at last season, Potterne looked guaranteed to go up and then lost their last couple of games and ended up third or fourth, so I think there are still a couple of twists and turns to come.’’
