PURTON are looking to put a disappointing first half of the season behind them when they take on Great Bedwyn this weekend.

Selection issues have blighted Purton’s start to their Wiltshire Division campaign and they have only collected three wins out of their first nine games as they reach the turn of the season.

However, Aaron Lee’s side still sit in sixth place, but the skipper knows they must win this weekend to keep in touching distance of the sides above them.

“It’s been a weird first half of the season,” said Lee.

“We have been really disappointed with how we have played.

“If you’d told us at the start of the year we’d only have three wins we’d have thought we would be right down at the bottom battling out.

“Although the gap between us and the bottom two isn’t huge we are actually in sixth place.

“It’s going to be very interesting to see how the second half of the season pans out.

“There are definitely five or six games that we would say we should be winning.

“Some games so far we just haven’t turned up, so we need to make sure we put that right now.

“You can talk about inconsistency in selection but you have to win games with what you have got out there.”

Purton will take confidence going into the weekend, having kicked off their campaign with a 63-run win over Great Bedwyn.

However, Lee is cautious of not taking their opposition, who sit two places below them in the league, lightly, with the threat of brothers John and Robert Palmer.

“We did well against them earlier in the season and are confident we are capable of getting another win against them but we also know they are a good side and have got some very good players in their side,” he added.

“The Palmer brothers have the potential to take a game away from you on their own so we need to be extremely wary of them.”
