HEAD coach Steve Bennett knows his side simply have to win at local rivals Oxford this weekend if they are to maintain any hope of reaching the post-season.

Storm, with a 3-3 record so far in 2015, travel to Abingdon on Sunday to take on the Saints in a last-ditch effort to keep their play-off hopes alive, with both sides having endured up and down seasons in the Division Two South West Conference.

Swindon beat their local rivals 50-16 when they met earlier in the season but, since then, the Saints have put themselves in a position where one more win will all but secure their place in the play-offs.

A win for Storm will see them leapfrog Oxford, reigniting their challenge heading into their final game of the season against Bristol.

Last time out against Torbay, Storm set offensive records with 78 points and over 600 yards of total offence, leaving Bennett excited about what’s to come this week.

He said: “Both Oxford and ourselves will be different teams to the ones who met back in May.

"Oxford’s experienced coaching staff will have dissected all the elements of the previous game’s video and will have a new, polished battle plan ready. The Storm staff have also re-branded our offence after Cornwall took it apart last month.

“Football’s really a game of match-ups. This time in the season is where the cream rises to the top. We’ve all played each other once and now it’s down to who adjusts and fixes their weaknesses most efficiently.

“We’ve moved some personnel around - strong safety Greg Roscow has slotted back in at QB, his natural position, and put down some impressive statistics last week.

“Oxford however, are a different class of team and will be coming after Greg on Sunday. We’ll need to protect him and give him time to pass the ball and get into a rhythm with his receivers.”
