SWINDON’S Jamie Cox is already looking to his next fight after making light work of Blas Miguel Martinez to claim the vacant WBO European super-middleweight crown.

It took Cox just two minutes and 14 seconds to get a stoppage win to stretch his unbeaten run to 19 fights at Wembley Arena.

Cox had a clear game plan as he attacked the body from the off and had his opponent on the ropes within seconds.

The Swiss-born Spaniard was kneeling on the canvas after just a minute of the contest, but the referee deemed it to be a low blow and the fight continued.

It wasn’t long after though that Cox had Martinez shaken with a straight left, before another blow to the body had his opponent on his knee again.

This time his corner had decided he had already had enough punishment and threw in the towel.

Cox was delighted with his swift victory and is looking for a world title now to add to his collection.

“I feel wicked,” he told the Advertiser.

“We have had some games in the last week, but we got the job done.

“This is the junior title, if you like, now let’s go and get the real world title.

“I watched him on the videos and he comes to fight, so everyone you have got to treat like a champion because you don’t know what is going to happen on the day.

“I just prepared the best, and I knew that Blas was going to come and fight.

“John (Costello) wanted me to switch up some shots to the liver and then, when I hurt him he just said go there again.

“I kept turning it over and the next thing I knew the fight was over.

“He had a cut to the head, but I don’t know how he got that, we never clashed heads.

“To be fair I don’t think he ever hit me clean, which is another positive.

“I always prepare for the full duration and train hard in the gym but I could have done that pace for ten round.

“I was ready to dig deep, because I am 28 and I am hungry.

“I will fight anyone. I needed to win this to go and get those fights and not get avoided.”

Cox will now return to Swindon to recover from the bout but after the light workout in the capital he is ready to get back out on the canvas.

“I’m just going to have a couple of days off, go back and train and then see what John wants me to do,” he added.

“I didn’t really have a proper fight there and there was no wear or tear, so if there is a fight next week, I will fight next week.

“I want to fight a decent kid. Obviously I am in the middle of the weights at the moment so it doesn’t really matter which way I will go.”
