A BRACE from Jacob Davidge secured Swindon Supermarine’s place in the next round of the FA Cup with a 4-2 away at Sholing on Friday night.

Supermarine went behind against the run of play in the eighth minute when Dan Mason held off Shepherd to find the bottom corner.

The visitors responded immediately when Luke Hopper had a try from 25 yards out and Sholing’s goalkeeper was able to push his shot onto the post and away from danger.

The equaliser came in the 23rd minute when Ryan Stanners won a free-kick and it was converted by Chris Taylor.

Supermarine were given a let off when Mason got through the back line from a long kick but his lobbed effort went wide of the goal.

The hosts were made to pay for the miss instantly when a minute late Stanners pass put Davidge in on goal and he made no mistake on the half-hour mark.

Just a minute after the break Davidge went within a post’s width of doubling his tally when he again linked up with Stanners.

Supermarine continued to pile the pressure on the hosts and it took its toll in the 64th minute when substitute Ash Edenborough marked his return with a goal to double the visitor’s lead.

Mason made for a tense end to proceedings after tapping in from two yards out with 15 minutes remaining, but Davidge booked Supermarine’s place in the next round with a lobbed effort in the 90th minute.

Dave Webb's men now face a first round qualifying tie with either Winchester or Wincanton Town.
