THE INDOOR season clicks into full gear in Swindon this weekend for the men as the opening round of the Wessex League East section will be staged tomorrow.

Swindon Manor and, Old Town club, Westlecot will compete in a ten-team section and face Banbury Cross, Carterton, Chipping Norton, Loddon Vale (Basingstoke), Oxford City & County, Oxford & District, Rivermead (Reading) and West Berks (Newbury).

The top two clubs in the final table will automatically progress to the end-of-season play-offs.

Both Swindon clubs will be seeking better fortunes this time around after suffering extremely disappointing 2014-15 seasons.

Westlecot, four-times Wessex champions, missed-out on a place in the play-offs for only the second time since 1983.

Swindon Manor, meanwhile, found their debut season in the league extremely tough and failed to win, or even draw, any of their nine matches as they finished with the wooden spoon.

Westlecot launch their campaign when they face Chipping Norton, while Swindon Manor open against another Oxfordshire side, Banbury Cross.

Westlecot are a couple of regulars short for their match but welcome back the vastly experienced skip Mel Biggs to the side.

The former England international has hardly played any indoor bowls for several seasons but is making a comeback starting tomorrow.
