SWINDON Town have confirmed that youngster Jake Evans has signed a professional contract with the club.

The 18-year-old revealed via social media that he had been offered a deal back on April 18 but it is only now that the club have announced it officially.

Evans’ deal comes following the conclusion of his scholar contract at the County Ground, with the midfielder coming through the club’s academy system and regularly involved in the Town Under-18s side this season.

Earlier this month, Evans featured in the matchday squad for Luke Williams’ team in their League One games at Oldham and Bradford City and was an unused substitute on both occasions.

Town head coach Williams has previously spoken of how he has been impressed by Evans’ development, although is unsure of exactly when he will become fully involved in the first-team set-up.

“He has shown lots of qualities that we like about him in is football and in his personality as well,” Williams told BBC Wiltshire.

“We are looking to progress his development. How much he will feature in the first team squad in the near future, I don’t exactly know, but he has certainly showed some promise.”

Williams added that Town are still weighing up which of their other younger players to offer full-time deals to but said that no decisions will be rushed and even those not retained will be helped to stay on the football ladder.

“We are still waiting to discuss with each individual player,” added Williams.

“We would like to put aside as much time as we can with these young players at this crucial moment in their career whether it’s good news or bad news, to give them full feedback and help them come to terms with the decisions if they are negative and give them some advice on how they can pick themselves up and maybe go and pursue their career elsewhere if that is the case.”
