TEENAGER Charlie Nesbitt extended his lead in the Hel Performance British Motostar Championship with victory in race two at Brands Hatch at the weekend.

Pole position rider Tom Booth-Amos crashed out at Paddock Hill on the opening lap, allowing Jake Archer to race to the front.

Archer enjoyed a 2.5-second lead at the halfway point but Nesbitt slowly chipped away, taking the lead on lap 20 before sealing his third win of the season.

E3 Motorsport/Redline KTM rider Nesbitt had earlier finished sixth in race one and is now 13 points clear in championship standings.

Nesbitt said: “The start was quite tricky as another rider forced me wide but thankfully, I stayed on. I then set about working my way through the riders in front of me.

“Once I was second, I felt confident I had the pace to catch Archer.

“Thank you to Nick Carpenter and the E3 Motorsport/Redline KTM team, who put together a fantastic bike. I would also like to thank all my sponsors who enabled me to race.”

Fellow Swindon rider Max Cook secured his best finish of the season with fifth place in the first race of the weekend.

The 13-year-old was crowned Aprilia Superteen Champion in 2015 and continues to make the most of his first year in the big leagues for the ReplicastUK team.

Cook secured a qualifying position of ninth on his 250cc Honda, breaking into the top 10 in the second session with a 50.2 second lap – 0.7 seconds off pole.

In the first of two sessions, he secured fifth place, his best this season before a seventh place in the second race lifted him to sixth in the Premier Open Championship with 42 points.

“I came away from Brands with my best place of the season with a fifth in the first race, which was amazing considering the weather was all over the place,” said Cook.

“I am so chuffed to be with the higher group of riders and battling for position, which was loads of fun.

“A massive thank you to the team for a great bike and working so hard to get great set-up; Danny Webb for all the help and support; thanks to Neil and Barbara for coming over from Spain to see me and thanks to all my sponsors for their support, as I couldn’t do it without you.

“This was an amazing weekend and to come away now sixth in the Premier Open Championship is a dream come true.”

Nesbitt and Cook will contest round four of the championship at Knockhill on June 24-26.
