NICK Morris is raring to go racing again after passing himself fit to ride for Swindon Robins this evening.

The young Australian fell twice in the Robins’ last Elite League fixture at Leicester Lions back on June 4, suffering a nasty ankle injury in the process.

Morris required crutches in the initial stages of his recovery and although it is yet to fully heal, he believes it has improved enough to allow him to take to the startline in tonight’s match at home to Lakeside Hammers.

“It’s not 100 per cent but it’s getting better every day. I’m pretty sure it will be all good to go racing again on Thursday and I’ve just got to get back on the bike and see how it goes,” said Morris.

“I haven’t actually ridden a bike since that meeting but I can walk on it fine and can jog a little bit.

“I am not worried about it going into this fixture but hopefully I ride OK and don’t damage it again.”

Swindon have not raced since that meet at Leicester – a 46-44 victory – and had two fixtures against Lakeside called off due to wet weather last week.

That has crucially given Morris extra time for rehabilitation and having not been out on a bike for almost three weeks, the 22-year-old is eager to get back out on track.

“I wasn’t going that great before it happened so I think a bit of a break will do me good and I can come back in fresh and really look to get myself going again,” said Morris.

“I didn’t miss a meeting for Swindon, so that was really good, and after this meeting I am going over to Poland to do some riding, so hopefully in a few days’ time, I should be all good again.”

Swindon are in desperate need of a home win this evening, having suffered defeats in their last two fixtures at the Abbey Stadium.

Alun Rossiter’s side have not tasted victory at Blunsdon since May 19 and they face a stiff challenge to do so again against a Hammers side sitting second in the table.

However, the Robins can take hope from the fact that just two of Lakeside’s nine wins in 2016 have come away from Essex and they have already been beaten six times on the road.

“We were having such a good run up and then we had a few bad results and everyone was up in arms about it and it was all doom and gloom,” said Morris.

“I think that’s the way it’s going to be this year, if the team gets moved around then we’re probably going to have a few up and down results. We just have to try to be as consistent as we can.

“Lakeside are a good team and it’s going to be tough whether we race them away or at home.

“But we know our track well and we want to put in a good performance.

“We want to do well this season and we want to make the play-offs, so we can’t afford to let another one slip past us at home.”
