SWINDON Robins star Jason Doyle and his Australia team-mates will head to the last-chance saloon on Friday night as they bid to join Alun Rossiter’s Great Britain in the Speedway World Cup final.

Doyle’s Aussie quartet will take on Denmark, Russia and the United States in Friday’s race-off at Belle Vue’s National Stadium – only the winning team will qualify for Saturday night’s final at the same venue – after they finished second behind hosts and reigning world champions Sweden in their semi-final in Vastervik tonight.

Robins captain Doyle clinched three heat victories and top-scored for Australia with 12 points but his efforts, and those of Chris Holder (11), Max Fricke (9) and Sam Masters (5), weren’t enough to trouble a rampant Sweden, who eclipsed the Aussies' total of 37 with a towering 48-point haul.

Antonio Lindback and Andreas Jonsson both scored 13 whilst Freddie Lindgren and Peter Ljung posted 11 apiece, with Greg Hancock’s USA (22) finishing third ahead of Germany (17), who were eliminated.

Current Grand Prix champion Tai Woffinden is the star name and captain in Swindon and Great Britain team manager Rossiter’s side, who qualify for Saturday's final (7pm start) as the host nation.

Semi-final event one winners Poland, Sweden and Friday's race-off winners will join them.
