ROHAN Tungate admits he endured a topsy-turvy season with Swindon Robins but hopes to be in better form heading into next year.

The 26-year-old was a late call-up at the Abbey Stadium as he replaced Dakota North, who was forced to stay in Australia for family reasons, in the Robins septet.

The Australian admits that had an impact on the start to the season and when he started to find form, he was hit by an injury at the end of May picked up during the Robins’ win at home to the King’s Lynn Stars.

Tungate finished the season strongly, scoring double figures in three of his last four meetings, and believes there is plenty he can take away from the campaign individually.

“It’s been a bit up and down for me,” said Tungate.

“I didn’t start the best and then I got going and then I had an injury with my shoulder.

“The injury put me back a bit and once I got that sorted and brought my Polish mechanic over and we got going and everything was good from then.

“I have had some bad meetings but overall I am fairly happy with what I have done.

“I have done my job away, I have had some bad ones at home but I have proven that I can do it.

“I have learnt a lot this year and I am keen to get going next year.”

While team manager Alun Rossiter has already started thinking ahead to next season, securing skipper Jason Doyle on a two-year deal before the season closed, Tungate has said it is too early to say where he will be next term.

“I think after the first of November talks will start to happen and we’ll have to see what happens from there,” he added.

“It was a bit of a late call (to Swindon) and I was really wanting an Elite League spot and I kind of jumped at it.

“If I was a bit more prepared earlier with my mechanic and my equipment then I could have been a bit better.

“It was hard at the start of the season because I didn’t have much money to fund my equipment.

“Hopefully next year I can put myself in a good position and start off with a good one.”
