SWINDON Town’s hopes of holding on to defender Frazer Blake-Tracy until the end of the season may have been given a significant boost over the past few days.

Blake-Tracy agreed a season-long loan to the Robins back in the summer and has impressed fans with his unflinching commitment and aerial ability ever since.

The versatile defender has played 23 times, scoring one goal and providing one assist, while also being present for eight of Swindon’s nine clean sheets this term.

But with his contract at Burton expiring in a matter of months, Blake-Tracy recently admitted he was unsure whether the Brewers would want to recall him in order to try and secure a fee this month.

However, Dino Maamria’s side have made a couple of recent additions to the squad which would suggest that Burton are planning for life without the 27-year-old.

On Tuesday, Zac Ashworth arrived at the Pirelli Stadium on loan from Championship side West Bromwich Albion. The 20-year-old is a left-back who can also play at wing-back.

And on Wednesday, the Brewers brought in Jasper Moon from League One rivals, Barnsley for the rest of the season. Moon is predominantly a 22-year-old centre-back but can also play in a holding-midfield role.

With those two positions reinforced at Burton, Town fans may be able to breathe a slight sigh of relief over Blake-Tracy’s immediate future with the Robins.

In a recent interview with Swindon Town Official Supporters Club on the group’s Monday Night Panel, technical director Sandro Di Michele admitted he was “maybe 98 per cent” sure Blake-Tracy would remain in Wiltshire until the end of the season and said the club is doing everything it can to ensure that happens.

Asked whether buying Blake-Tracy permanently would also be an option, Di Michele said: “Yeah, if that was the best way of keeping him at the club, then absolutely we’d sign him permanently.

“Frazer has been superb – an absolute top, top professional. He’s been excellent in everything he’s done, whatever has been asked of him. Left-back, left wing-back, centre-back in a back four, in a back three.

“Frazer epitomises everything we’re trying to do at this football club, and he’s been a great influence to have around the club for the younger players as well. We’d love to keep Frazer here for longer.”
