Swindon Town head coach Jody Morris believes the upcoming run of fixtures is the perfect opportunity to change the club’s fortunes after a run of poor results.

Morris took over from Scott Lindsey in January but has only overseen two wins in his reign at the County Ground.

The Robins find themselves on a seven-game winless streak after losing most recently to Mansfield Town on Good Friday, but Morris hopes the relentless fixture list can help concoct a quick turnaround.

“I think that there are two ways to look at it as some people think, look it’s a tough fixture list with games coming thick and fast,” said Morris.

“But when it’s not going well, I think the type of people who look forward and want the next game as quickly as possible are the people you want.”

Following this line of thinking, the Town head coach revealed that he aligns more with wanting to bounce back and relishing the upcoming opportunity.

“I am certainly like that as coming out of the stadium at 8.20pm on Friday after watching the game back here, the first thing I thought was that we need a game.

“It is more about the mentality of who is looking forward to the game and wanting to put right what wasn’t good enough at the weekend.”

Communication with the team in the form of meetings and chats appears to be extremely important to Morris who revealed how the team reacted following their most recent defeat.

“We had a pretty honest and open meeting where I wanted to show the lads what was poor about the game both on and off the ball,” he said.

“I know the players knew they weren’t good enough and underperformed because there wasn’t much coming back from them regarding the stuff I was showing them.”

The mantra coming from inside the dressing room seems to be that mistakes may be made but it is the team’s reaction and response to those that matters most.

“It is good when players recognise that they have underperformed but all that you really want is for them to put it right,” said Morris.

“Thankfully for us we have got a game that has come around quickly and we have to try and attack it and embrace it.”

The Robins take on Tranmere Rovers on Monday in League Two aiming to provide a turnaround in fortunes for the travelling fans.

Kick-off at Prenton Park is scheduled for 3pm.
