SWINDON'S Lewis Roberts is preparing for his biggest test to date this weekend - a clash with a former Commonwealth belt contender who has three times as many knock-outs as the 21-year-old has fights.

The bantam weight contender has won all six of his professional bouts since making the step up from amateur in 2021, but upcoming opponents Julias Thomas Kisarawe has 18 knock-outs from 34 wins.

When the pair meet at the MECA in Swindon on Saturday, a huge blow to someone's ego - and potential chances of fighting for titles - is going to occur.

Roberts has seen his support grow since his debut in 2021 and is especially known for his extravagant ring walks, with last year's including a five-piece mariachi band and a sea of sombreros worn in the crowd.

The 21-year-old owes his Mexican persona to being nicknamed “El Gordito” while under Paddy Fitzpatrick in the amateur boxing scene - a name which has stuck ever since.

But ahead of his starring in the main event on Saturday night, Roberts stated he means business.

He said: “I am in the shape of my life right now, punching harder than ever before and flourishing in my spars.”

In preparation for the fight, Roberts has been sparring with former Commonwealth champion Ashley Lane, who is in line for an English title later in the year.

The event, organised by Swindon-based pomoter, Neilson Boxing, will also feature some other local fighters including Swindon's own Tom Brennan and Ciaran Flanagan.

Promoter, Mark Neilson, said: "This has got to be one of the best cards ever put on in the south west. Title eliminators, step ups in opponents, and debuts of former amateur champions, we have it all."

Specifically discussing Roberts, Neilson said: “This is a real test for Lewis, we have no doubt about that.

"Kisarawe comes in with three times as many KO’s as Lewis has fights, so he will need to be on his game come June 3.”

Roberts penned a deal with Neilson Boxing before his debut and praised their joint quest in getting him to title level.

He said: “The relationship has definitely grown and we are going from strength to strength as we look to get those top spots and those big fights".
