FORMER Swindon Town loanee Jerry Yates has completed a seven-figure move to Championship side, Swansea City.

Yates has agreed a three-year contract with the Jacks after leaving recently-relegated Blackpool.

Ex-Swans forward Kyle Joseph has moved in the opposite direction in another permanent deal.

Yates underwent a medical in south Wales on Tuesday after a reported £2.5 million deal was accepted by the Tangerines on Monday.

Speaking to Swansea's media team, Yates said: "I am really excited to be here.

"I hope I can adapt very quickly because I am really looking forward to getting down to work.

"I spoke to a lot of people before coming here, and I wanted to make sure I had the right advice.

"I spoke to someone who has close ties to the club, who played for Swansea and lived in Swansea in Ashley Williams.

"Obviously he gave me some great advice and, also, I have not enjoyed having to face Swansea over these last two seasons. So if you can't beat them, join them."

Earlier this summer, recently-relegated Leicester City were said to have seen a £2.5million bid rejected by Blackpool as the Lancashire outfit held out for their valuation of £3million.

But with the likes of Leicester, West Bromwich Albion, and Luton Town also reportedly interested in bringing Yates to their club, Michael Duff's men won the race for the 26-year-old.

The deal could end up causing Swansea's top scorer from the past two seasons - Joel Piroe - to move elsewhere, however, after the 23-year-old attracted interest from the Foxes and fellow relegated Premier League outfit, Leeds United.

Piroe only has a year left on his Jacks contract, and Swansea may feel it is best to cash in on one of their primary assets or lose the Dutchman for free in 2024.

Should Piroe depart, Swansea have a perfectly capable replacement on their hands in Yates, though.

Since his season-long loan stint at Swindon ended in 2020 having just won League Two, Yates moved to Blackpool from Rotherham United and enjoyed an excellent spell at Bloomfield Road.

Following 14 goals and an assist in 35 games for Town, the 26-year-old netted 46 times while laying on 18 others in 139 appearances for the Tangerines.

The 26-year-old cleaned up at Blackpool's end-of-season awards, bagging Players' Player of the Year, top scorer, and goal of the season.

Yates, who scored 15 goals in all competitions last term, primarily played through the middle for Blackpool but is capable of operating anywhere across the front line - as he proved alongside Eoin Doyle at Town.
