SWINDON Town made their fourth summer signing on Wednesday in the form of Bradford City striker Jake Young on loan.

The 22-year-old scored four goals in 29 appearances for Bradford and Barrow last season - although 12 of his 17 Bluebirds appearances were from the bench.

Before that, Young netted 12 times in 62 outings for Forest Green Rovers - the club with which he won the League Two title in 2021/22.

Ahead of a season-long spell with Michael Flynn's Robins, Adver Sport asked Nathan Atkinson of the Bradford Telegraph and Argus for further insight into Town's most-recent summer signing.

Atkinson said: "Young was a popular signing when he came in to Bradford, having played his part in Forest Green’s promotion to League One in 2021-22.

"He started well too, scoring against Barrow and Walsall in the league, as well as netting a brace against Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Trophy.

"But after playing a part in seven of City’s first eight league games, he was not selected again for a fourth-tier fixture by Mark Hughes, seemingly falling out of favour to the disappointment of many fans who felt he was promising.

"He featured regularly at Barrow though, so clearly they had faith in him as a League Two player."

Swindon Town make Young the club's fourth summer signing.

Atkinson believes there is a good player in Young but wonders if confidence might be an issue for a man who hasn't scored a competitive goal in almost a year.

Looking for positives, one of the Telegraph and Argus' dedicated Bantams reporters said if his potential can be unlocked then Young could turn out to be a hidden gem for Swindon.

Atkinson continued: "I think the loan could offer him a new lease of life, as perhaps he just was not the right fit at City for Hughes.

"Young appeared to have perfected a trademark goal, which would see him cut inside from the left on to his right foot, before whipping the ball into the far corner, so he could be a threat out wide for Swindon.

"That's probably his best position, although quotes from Pete Wild at Barrow would suggest that he's adept at featuring anywhere across the front line, really.

"It will be interesting to see if City make use of the January recall too, but putting that in there in the first place suggests he is still in their thoughts."
