A 15-year-old from Wroughton has been selected for the Great Britain ice hockey team for the Youth Winter Olympic Games.
Sam Ellis, 15, from Ridgeway School has been picked to play as a goaltender for the Great Britain team at the games in Gangwon, South Korea in January 2024.
Ellis will be competing in a new format for the competition, a three v three version of ice hockey, which will be taking place instead of the traditional five-a-side game.
He said: "I am so excited to be picked to play for Great Britain and become an Olympian.
He will be looking to bring back the gold medal to Wiltshire as "there is no point in settling for second best!"
Great Britain will be one of six teams competing for the gold medal in this new format at the Gangneung Hockey Centre.
Ellis will be one of 1,900 young athletes competing at the games in South Korea, the first time the competition has been held outside of Europe, across 81 events in seven different sports.
The Youth Winter Olympic Games will be running from January 19 to February 1, with ice hockey matches going on during every day of the event.
