Swindon Town signing Harry McKirdy has said there is “no better place” after making a dramatic return to the club.

The forward made a shock last-minute move to the County Ground from Scottish side Hibernian on deadline day of the January transfer window.

He previously played for the Robins from 2021 to 2022, quickly becoming a fan favourite, being named the club's Player of the Season and in the EFL League Two Team of the Season.

Speaking to the club’s official media publicly for the first time since his move, McKirdy opened up about coming back.

“It feels different but obviously there are some familiar faces in the building and it’s just nice to be back,” he said.

“It’s nice for them [the fans] and nice for me as well as I try and build on where I left off last time as it’s not gone well, the last 18 months.

“I think there’s no better place to get myself back to that than putting yourself in an environment that you’ve already been.

“Hopefully the fans, players and staff here can get me back to what I was.”

The 26-year-old scored an impressive 26 goals in 49 games during his last spell and is keen to get back to business this season.

“I want to get back to what I was when I left here,” he said.

“They [Swindon] just want to see me playing football and smiling on a pitch because that’s when the good stuff happened.

“I think they [the fans] all know from the get-go that I loved it here and I have no bad words,” he said.

“I need them to be patient with me and I’d love to hit the ground running and get going.”

McKirdy made his return against Newport County on Saturday, coming on as a substitute in Town’s 2-1 away defeat.

“I think I showed a couple of glimpses at the weekend but I am still a long way away from being my best,” said McKirdy.

“It’ll just be nice to walk out there and come on into familiar surroundings with good memories at this stadium [the County Ground].

“I think this is actually the last stadium I scored in so I’m hoping that’s going to happen again on Saturday.”

Town take on Salford City at the County Ground on Saturday with McKirdy expected to feature.
