Williams Kokolo was left delighted after he netted his first Swindon Town goal as they were victorious 2-0 at Barrow AFC.

The AS Monaco academy graduate whipped home the opener from just inside the penalty area to set Town on their way to a surprise win on the road in Cumbria.

Kokolo said that he was not sure he would be getting the ball from George McEachran, but was very pleased that the pass came.

He said: "It was a big game for us and we managed to win, get the three points, and I am happy to score my first goal for Swindon.

"To be fair I felt like George was not going to pass me the ball, I was shouting 'George, George' and then he passed me the ball and then first time I put it in the goal, so I am happy.

"I am not going to lie [I have been waiting for that for a while], of course."

In spite of the expected goals battle being unfavourable to Swindon, they were resilient defensively and prevented the Bluebirds from creating many clear-cut opportunities after taking the lead.

Kokolo was particularly pleased with the work rate and desire shown by his teammates to travel the length of the country and come away with something against a side challenging for promotion.

He said: "I think we worked hard, the team worked hard to make sure that we didn't concede the goal and that helped us to get the three points away, so I think it was perfect.

"We needed to do this because since Monday after the game, everybody was not happy.

"So we came here and put in a good performance for the club and for the fans, which is good.

"I think we need to go and get three points in the next game, it is a big game against Wimbledon and go about winning the next game and the next game."

Having gone more than a year without playing in a competitive game prior to arriving at Swindon in November, Kokolo has made 24 appearances for Town and has enjoyed being back playing regular football.

He said: "I am happy to be back and playing a lot of games.

"Now I have scored a goal, will I score again in the next game? I don't know, but I hope so. It has just been good to be back playing again."
