Several players have been told they have no future at Swindon Town, the Adver understands.

As many as eight squad members were told they were free to go and find other clubs following meetings on Tuesday morning, a source has said.

It is not known which players have been released, but it is understood all first-team squad members at the club were told either way.

This follows interim manager Gavin Gunning hinting on April 12 that the squad will be learning their futures in the next week or so

In an interview, he said: “I think the boys will get more of an inkling of what is happening in the next week or so and we will go from there.”

At the time of these comments, only six members of the current squad were certain that they would be Swindon players when pre-season begins this summer.

This left 17 other permanently contracted players who were yet to have clarity over their situations.

One of these players,  Williams Kokolo, told the Advertiser in April that he was yet to receive any indication from Town as to where his future lies beyond this season.

Town round off their worst-ever season in the Football League with a home game against Morecambe on Saturday.

Swindon Town Football Club have been approached for comment.
